How To Effortlessly Prep Your Home For The Party Season
With Thanksgiving looming and Christmas but a few weeks away now, many people’s thoughts are turning to the influx of visitors and guests they’re likely to receive at this festive time of year. While some will already have scheduled professional cleaning, others may prefer to do it themselves, or have been unable to find a company who weren’t booked up over the festive period.
Fortunately, there are a few quick and easy ways to get your home ready for just about anyone this party season, here are just a few of them:
Make your entryways clean and tidy
As this is the first part of your home’s interior guests will see (and smell!), it’s important to keep it as clean and tidy as possible at all times. You may find it easiest to buy a cheap rug to cover the floor in your main entryway, that way you can simply shake the dirt and mud off outside at the end of each day.
Try to make sure there are enough places for hats and coats to be hung, too, and somewhere for shoes and boots to go where they won’t be tripped over.
If you wish, you can put a scented plugin or reed diffuser in the corner of the room to keep it smelling inviting.
Keep your bathroom fresh
A simple swap out of towels, mop of the floor, and wipe down of the sink and toilet can transform a grotty bathroom into a clean, hygienic and calming space for visitors to use. Make sure you’ve got a good supply of toilet rolls, and if you wish, light a long lasting scented candle to keep it smelling pleasant.
Deal with dust
With so many people coming in and out of your home over the festive season, it can be easy for dust to accumulate. When time permits, run the vacuum cleaner over high traffic areas at least once a day, and use the attachments to suck up any other dust you happen to spot. For some light furnishings and fabric lamps, a lint roller can work just as well. While for ceiling fans, a stepladder, a couple of old pillowcases and a damp cloth, can help stop dust from being circulated around the home every time the fans are turned on.
Prep your fridge
There’s likely to be a lot of food going in and out of the fridge at this time of year, but a simple layer of cling wrap on every shelf can make it easier to deal with spillages once your guests have gone.
Line your trash can
Of course you’re going to put a trash bag in the bin, but it’s all too easy for certain food items to get caught between the bin and the bag, especially with so much trash going into it. When this happens, things can get pretty messy, pretty quickly. To prevent this, line the bottom of the bin with another bag, or place some sheets of newspaper in the bottom to soak up any spillages.
Clean hot spots
Party season is also flu season, and the last thing you want is for visitors to your home to fall sick after visiting you, all because you didn’t keep your door knobs, light switches, remote controls and commonly used surfaces hygienically clean. Try to wipe high-touch areas thoroughly at least once a day with a disinfectant spray, or disposable wipes.
If you want party season to be less about cleaning and more about having fun and kissing under the mistletoe, why not hire a cleaning service to pop in before the festivities begin, and again when everybody has left. Now, wouldn’t that make life simple?
